"Azumuth" is the self-titled full-length debut from Australian hard rock/alt-metal band Azumuth. Azumuth is the brainchild of singer/songwriter Aidan Dickens, whose soaring vocals and vocal diversity fuel the entire album and well-complement the heavy backing arrangements. The great guitar and drum work and varying methods of creating ambience combined with Dickens' diverse and all-out vocals sounds like a combination of Thursday, Thrice, System of a Down, and Faith No More. Dickens' lyrics are intelligent and meaningful, the songs melodic, and the choruses extremely catchy and memorable, since Dickens never fails to let it all out on the choruses. "Azumuth" is well-produced, sounds polished, and is ready for alternative radio play. "Ends of the Earth" is a mood-setting track with a nice arrangement, great lyrics, and group vocals with an overall sound similar to Thursday. "Disarray" is a great System of a Down-esque track with heavy drums, heavier distortion, and quick lyrical delivery from Dickens. "Azumuth" is a great full-length debut from Aidan Dickens and Azumuth and is as worthy of breaking through to the mainstream as the groups that clearly influenced them. Fans of hard rock and alt-metal should definitely pick this one up.

"Degenerator - EP" by Azumuth is an excellent hard rock album which features multiple creative takes on their song "Degenerator." This compilation is recommended for fans of Faith No More, Evanescence, and early System of a Down. Azumuth's powerful hard rock vocals are belted out to the heavens on this album. "Degenerator (Voodoo Doll Mix)" is an interesting electronic/techno remix of the single which is similar to some of the heavier tracks by New World Order, Chemical Brothers, and at times even a little like Linkin Park. The EP is an interesting experiment in production and its effect on the overall sound, mood and genre of a song. Furthermore, the EP shows that a well-written song, with a nice build to a powerful and memorable chorus, can work well in many different subgenres. Be sure to check this one out if you are a fan of hard rock songs with a catchy chorus.

"Nothing Is Everything" is an avant garde electronic punk album with hip-hop undertones from Government Overdose Department. G.O.D. is not only political in their content, but the band also delivers powerful messages about freedom of expression and offers an eclectic take on life. The arrangements are very creative, incorporating many genres and introducing you to sounds that will challenge your ears. The sound is full and well layered, with great instrumentation and an interesting blending of sounds. The mix does not sell the production short either; it's well-polished and sounds really good. Highlights include "Marajuana," which has a killer arrangement, a great hook, and one of the most bizarre groans you have ever heard in a song. "G.O.D." opens with haunting spoken word and evolves into a nice barrage of well-layered lyrics with great diversity. "Mushroom Song" is a trip to say the least, as it opens with pure psychedelia and evolves into a strange punk/jazz number. "Torments" is a haunting ambient album from Norwegian artist Immundus. Prepare yourself: one listen may force you to sleep with the lights on. Immundus creates an overall atmosphere of horror, suspense and distortion. Though the mood is dark, you'll hear some nice melodies and temporary hints of hope throughout. The arrangements are powerful enough to make you create your own horrific scene in your mind, like a horror movie without the movie. "Torments" is well-produced and allows the listener to hear those dark, disturbing ambient sounds as cleanly as possible. "I Walk Through the Shadows" opens thing up with creepy yet melodic bells and works its way into a disturb-o-rama of sounds. "To Where the Spirits Dwell" fills your ears with faint chants, creepy soundscapes, and a feeling that evil is approaching. "The Grieving Widow" wraps things up nicely with organic elements in the beginning and a nice progression in the end that speaks to the title. With "Torments," Immundus has created a must-have for those who enjoy horror soundtracks and dark ambient music.

"The Big Fat Pet Clams From Outer Space" is a classic east coast punk album with lots of humor and creativity, from O.L.P.B., or Oldest Living Punk Band. With their raw, powerful, dirty and angst-ridden sound, O.L.P.B. belongs inside CBGB, New York's famous punk club. The vocals are gritty and nonchalant and remind the listener of The Ramones while the humorous lyrics are reminiscent of The Vandals. The recording quality of this album is true to its east coast punk roots, so don't expect a slick, overproduced sound. "The Big Fat Pet Clams From Outer Space" opens with "I Used to Listen to the Radio," a quirky little reggae number filled with self-destructive humor and pleasant humming. "Queen Latifah" does not disappoint as O.L.P.B. makes a hilarious attempt to be with the times while incorporating an interesting musical arrangement. "God and Dr. Hawking," recorded live at CBGB in 2006, is another winner as it showcases the band's great performance ability and gives you a great taste of what they're like live. One noteworthy asset of this collection is its sensible diversity. Although primarily instrumental, this CD gives you a great deal of sounds and styles for your ears to enjoy. The arrangements are intelligent, highly energetic and very creative. You'll hear a lot of classic synths intertwined with new and innovative sounds. Highlights include the opener "Manic," which is the most fluid of all of the songs and sets you up for the mayhem that is ahead. "New Year" features some creepy vocals and some wicked sequencing. Moreover, "The Portal" flaunts a fat beat and also doesn't skimp on the oddity. If you like electronica with a heavy metal/rock influence, you'll enjoy this captivating CD.

"La Cognizone del Superfluo" by Storming Weather is a gripping rock album with dark undertones straight from Italy. The band has a thick sound, featuring bluesy guitar riffs and effective vocals that are sometimes weathered and sometimes melodic. The musicianship and recording quality of the CD are excellent. "Errori" has a nice "Epic" quality to it with soft verses that break into hard choruses. "Lo Show" opens with a killer guitar riff and moves forward into a fist pumping rocker with cool changes and a deep sound. "Killer Son" slows things down a bit, as the band shows you its dreamy, airy side. There are some cool changes and rhythms in this one too. If you like Nickelback and Grunge "In Italiano" you will enjoy this CD.

"Raised to the Ground" by Sky Rats is a grit filled rock album with hints of ska here and there. It features Rob Thomas meets Dave Grohl type vocals, a tight rhythm section and catchy melodies. The songwriting provides relevant lyrics and memorable choruses. This is a radio-ready, totally professional CD, in terms of both the tight sound of this talented band, and the high quality production on the CD. Sky Rats' sound on this CD remind us of the "Mod" bands of the 80's and sound very American for a UK band. Highlights of this album are "Don't Look Now," a big rocker with a driving chorus - a definite pit starter. "Get it All" has a real catchy chorus and is more toward the "Mod" sound, as earlier mentioned. "Out of my Depth" pumps with a cool bass line and sinister vocals. If you like Foo Fighters and Mighty Mighty Bosstones you will enjoy this one.

"Find Our Way Home" by Sil is a two-part collection of well-crafted adult alternative songs, with heavy electronica and pop influences. It doesn't take long to notice that this group has quite a talent for song-writing and composition. The vocals on the CD range from a classic baritone timbre to a pop-fitting tenor tone. What remains the same throughout, is the excellent quality and control of the vocal performances. "Where Angels Live" opens part 1, assuming an electronica edge with its robotic vocals. "Heart Breaker" is another outstanding track; its piano intro quickly leads into a groovy drum arrangement and a harmony-filled chorus. Even more impressive is the violin solo. "Make Love" conveys an atmosphere of uninhibited yearning, delivering a straight-forward expression of a burning desire for passionate love-making. Upon a complete listen, it becomes of no surprise that these tunes were written for screenplay. The emotional highs and lows of this CD make for a delightful and well-rounded listen.

The Signs is an excellent blues/rock EP with a catchy authentic sound. The songwriting, recording quality, production, and musicianship on this CD are all very good. The vocals periodically use falsetto to bring out a unique sound. Some big-name bands that come to mind when listening to this CD include Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR), Eric Clapton, and The Grateful Dead. All the tracks we checked out were solid, with varying styles/tempos that kept our interest. For example, "Leavin" has an excellent upbeat guitar/rhythm section groove. "Love's So Strong" has more of a traditional blues feel to it. If you enjoy talented blues-rock bands, you will enjoy this CD. Pick up a copy today!
